Welcome to my new series: 20 Minute High Protein Trader Joe’s Dinners! And substitutions listed so you can make them with ingredients from any grocery store.
My first of this series is the Better Than Takeout Beef & Broccoli! Just one pan, a simple and delicious sauce, and tons of protein & veggies! What more do you need?! Feel free to use any type of steak or even chicken or tofu, just cut it into bite sized pieces first.

There is nothing like getting your takeout fix in while knowing all of the ingredients going into a meal will make you feel just as good after as they did while you were eating it.

First, the sauce! Get your sauce ingredients ready to whisk together: 1/2 cup Trader Joe’s reduced sodium soy sauce, 1/2 cup water, 1 tbsp fresh ginger (peeled and grated), 3 cloves garlic (minced), 1 tbsp honey, 1 tsp chili onion crunch or sriracha, 1 tbsp tapioca flour or corn starch OR 2 tbsp all purpose flour. If you are not using Trader Joe’s brand soy sauce, reduce to 1/3 cup.

Whisk together until the flour has fully dissolved.

Heat 1 tbsp of avocado oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add the broccoli and add 2 tbsp water. Sauté for about 5 minutes then set aside.

Rinse the pan and then add 1 tbsp of sesame oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef with salt and pepper then add to the pan.

You will want to brown on each side for about 2 minutes (add 2 more minutes each side if using chicken).

Turn heat down slightly to medium then add the sauce.

Give it a good stir then let it simmer until beef is cooked through.

Then stir in the broccoli.

I like to top with sesame seeds, but this is optional.

Serve over rice and enjoy!

Toddler approved in my house. Made it with the TJs whole wheat Thai noodles and it was delicious.
Really delicious. I’ve tried many copycat take-out recipes and they’re always a fail. Everyone loved this, will definitely make again. Curious how it would taste with coconut aminos instead of soy. It was a tad salty, so I’d like to find a way to keep the flavor but reduce the salt even more. Maybe just less soy?
You could do less soy and a little water. Did you use reduced sodium soy sauce?
Obsessed! A favorite in my household.
One of my favorite quick easy meals to make! It literally comes out delicious every single time and reheats well the next day for leftovers. The shaved beef is definitely better to use than chunks of beef, it is much more tender. Chicken would be good too! A staple TJs recipe for us!
My 9-year old son just declared this the best thing I’ve ever cooked for him! We all loved this – thank you for the recipe!
This was amazing!!!
I make this all the time, and is always a hit! One of my favorite easy, dinner recipes! A must try!
This is seriously SO GOOD!!!! I made this week to have for lunches and am blown away by how easy and delicious it is! I usually have to add more soy sauce to things like this but it didn’t even need it! Kept me full and fed me for 4 lunches. I’ll be adding this to the regular rotation!
So yummy. 10/10 easy weeknight dinner
