Safe to say these Greek-Style Smash Burgers have changed my life. I’ve seen this method going viral and instead of the classic burger take (which is made with a tortilla and burger sauce- YUM!), I decided to make lamb burgers and do them Greek-style! Tastes like the best Gyro I’ve ever had. They’re perfect for a backyard BBQ or just a fun weeknight dinner. Hope you enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1/2 red onion finely minced or grated
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tbsp fresh mint
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Pita bread
- Toppings: lettuce tomato, cucumber, red onion, feta cheese, za’atar
Tzatziki:
- 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber grated
- 1 clove garlic minced
- Juice from 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp fresh dill chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh mint chopped
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp kosher salt plus more to taste
Instructions
- Grate the cucumber on the large holes of a box grater. Using a kitchen towel, wring or press out any excess liquid from the cucumber.
- In a medium bowl, combine the grated cucumber, yogurt, lemon juice, dill, mint, garlic, oil and salt. Refrigerate up to 3 days covered.
- For the burgers, combine the ground meat, onion, garlic, mint, and seasonings until fully combined. Roll into 4 balls.
- Heat a flat top grill or cast iron pan over medium high heat. Place the meat on the hot surface then, using a heavy pan or burger press, smash the pita down on top of the burger until it’s as flat as you can make it. Close the grill if using and cook for 3-4 minutes until the meat is crispy and cooked through. Flip over for about 1 minute then serve with your toppings!
Notes
Replace the paprika and oregano with 1 tablespoon Harmony Mediterranean Blend. Use more to top!
This was an excellent recipe. definitely a remake.
Another 5 star brocc recipe!!!!!
The Flavors are so yummy! I’d Recommend using a lower % fat meat if you can – my pita ended up a little greasy. Otherwise amazing! Tzatziki is on point!!
