Here’s my dilemma. Berry crisp is a fall food in my mind, but that’s not berry season. I rarely want warm fruit in the heat of summer, not to mention fresh berries are NOT cheap! This Brown Sugar Cinnamon (Frozen) Berry Crisp uses frozen berries, rich brown sugar and fall flavors to make the easiest, coziest dessert. If you’re more of a summer berry crisp type of gal, swap the brown sugar in the berries for granulated sugar and ditch the cinnamon in the topping to brighten it up. You can’t go wrong!
Now I’ve seen a few recipes claiming the recipe stays the same with fresh vs frozen berries and that is WRONG. Frozen berries release more liquid as they thaw so you need more cornstarch to thicken the juices. If you’re using fresh berries, cut the cornstarch in half and bake for 5-10 minutes less.
This was doggone gooooood. OMG good. I had my family over and served it for desert topped with trader joes vanilla ice cream and 10/10 recommend. It didnt look like a ton of crumble topping, but it ended up being the perfect ratio when I took it out. I think next time i might add some oats in the body, but it doesnt need it. I also loved that this was very easy to make and minimal cleanup.
